Kitano Takeshi, international spokesmodel

Kitano billboardYeah, that’s Kitano Takeshi’s mug on a giant billboard advertising Panasonic’s Viera range of big screen tellies, but it’s not where you might expect it to be.

The Beat doesn’t schill for Panasonic in Japan - the company have the more aesthetically pleasing Koyuki and Ayase Haruka for that - but he does in Russia. The 400 metre wide, 15 metre tall billboard stands in central Moscow not far from Red Square and the Kremlin, and is part of a winter ad campaign themed on his rendition of “Zatoichi”. Apparently there was also one made for summer based on “Dolls”:

Check out the Zatoichi-inspired commercials below:

Kitano Viera CM (winter version)

He actually speaks Russian at the end of the 30-second version: “Превосходно!” (a first-class product). You can see more stills of the billboard here. (sources: Iza, MSN Sankei News)

This guy pops out in the most unusual places imaginable.
I was reading the weekly Shincho the other day and the mag told me ,Takeshi was also getting money from defense contractor “YAMADA CORPORATION”along with all the defense ministers. Ofcourse the money was used to make his first film”Violent Cop”.
