Miike’s “Yatterman”: is this Doronjo?

Miike Takashi’s upcoming live-action anime adaptation “Yatterman” is one of rebooted studio Nikkatsu’s big hopes for 2009, and the ho-hum casting of Johnny’s Jimusho lad Sakurai Sho in the lead is probably best looked at as a predictable box office insurance policy. However, real fans of the series are far more interested in who’s going to play scantily-clad femme fatale Doronjo.
At first it was rumoured that Wakatsuki Chinatsu and Sawajiri Erika (who were both in Furusawa Takeshi’s rather crap “Ghost Train”) were competing for the role, and the latter’s sexy bitch reputation made her an instant choice for many, but her subsequent “Closed Note” publicity tour meltdown put her out of the running, and the cute, genki and therefore unsuitable Wakatsuki probably never had a chance in the first place. Now extremely unreliable gossip merchants Gendai Net are claiming that the marginally less unsuitable Fukada Kyoko (the goth-loli spinner from “Kamikaze Girls”) has been picked to squeeze into the skimpy costume.
Fukada’s easy on the eyes as you’d expect from someone who got her break by winning entertainment agency Horipro’s annual new faces audition pageant, but her forays into singing and acting have generally exposed her severe limits in those areas. A movie like “Yatterman” doesn’t require much in the way of actual acting ability anyway but she’s definitely not the sultry vixen type (curvy though she may be), nor does she have the chops to play one convincingly. I know there are a lot of “Kamikaze Girls” fans out there - I’ve never really been able to figure out why - but I’d say a large part of that film’s success was in the true-to-life/image casting of Tsuchiya Anna as a surly punk and Fukada as a ditzy airhead.
Still, considering where this news comes from you can most likely file it safely under ‘pure conjecture and probably bollocks’. Nice photo though eh? (source: Yahoo! Japan News)

oh for me fukada is the most cute looking woman on the world and i can understand why the most like “kamikaze girls”, it is such a funny movie and i also think it’s the work of BOTH, anna and kyoko. That’s the one side, in the other i don’t know if she really fits in this roll, because she mostly plays cute and innocent characters, but if we look to earlier photobooks of kyoko, we see, she can act sexy. Moreover in her actual TV-drama, she plays a more mature charakter than before. so let’s wait, for me i would like to see kyoko in this role, hope she gets ;)

you know some people say, with regards trying to find the courage to face certain situations, such as public speaking, that you should picture everyone naked and it will suddenly seem a lot easier to be in front of these people… well, i’ve this not-so-politically correct theory that, if you’re reading something, following general opinions and you can’t quite get your head around why something seems to be popular, there’s usually a perfectly instinctive reactionary answer that applies - i quite like the one “picture that they’re all teenagers” and then you’ll perhaps suddenly realise why an awful lot of folk like ‘kamikaze girls’.
p.s. i like it. i know i shouldn’t, logically, but i do.
