Happy new year readers, and I’m pleased to get the reel spinning again here with some great news for those who haven’t yet had the chance to see Hashiguchi Ryosuke’s “Gururi no Koto” (All Around Us), easily one of the best films of 2008; the domestic two-disc DVD release going on sale on February 25th will have English subtitles, and Amazon Japan have it up for pre-order here.
Additionally, a double-barrelled collection of Hashiguchi’s early works including his 8mm shorts and the 1989 Pia Film Festival Grand Prix-winning “Yube no Himitsu” (A Secret Evening) is being released simultaneously, although this probably won’t be subbed.
